Learning Outcome 2

When writing my final essay, using quotes helped make my paper stronger. It helped me support and back up the ideas that I had. The three narratives that I had brought into my own essay all had their own ideas and opinions and using some of the things they said helped make my paper better. When I wrote about the sources that I used and put some of their own words into mine, it would be very confusing if I didn’t explain the reason why I decided to bring that idea into my paper. Before I would bring in a quote I would make sure my paper flows into it and that the idea wasn’t completely random. After introducing the quote I made sure to explain why that was relevant and I would put my own opinions about their thoughts as well. Explaining how I feel about the quote helps the reader understand why it was important to me and how it fits in my own paper. If I didn’t state my own opinion then the reader may be left wondering how I stand with the quote or it might just leave them having questions about the quote in general.

Here is an example of a quote in my paper;

“There is so much civic virtue happening in the world today. The amount of people that I have seen helping each other out is inspiring. Many people have been making homemade masks for family members, friends, and even just to donate to others in need. As Danielle explained, “Seeing people help each other out during the hard time and giving encouragement to those in need, has helped me cope with what the world is dealing with”. It is reassuring seeing so many people step up and help comfort the people that need it the most. At my work, Aroma Joes, we have been giving healthcare workers free coffee since March, to show how thankful we are for them in general and taking care of people especially throughout this difficult time.”

Before I put in Danielle’s quote I talked about the civic virtue that I have seen which leads into what the quote was walking about. After the quote I talked about how that related to me and what I have seen which helps the reader understand how that was relevant to my own writing.
